Abstract
Community service activities carried out by a team of lecturers of the Public Administration Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sriwijaya University, are one of the strategic efforts in increasing understanding of the younger generation who are aware of gender equality will become agents of change in society, fight for justice and respect for human rights, reduce cases of discrimination and gender-based violence in the social environment. This article aims to review the implementation of community service activities that are expected to understand the importance of gender equality and apply it in everyday life. The method of implementing activities includes question and answer discussion sessions, sharing sessions, and collective evaluation. Activities are carried out in a participatory manner, with a focus on understanding students to be able to understand how equality is actually meant and how it can be implemented in social life is still a challenge faced. The main objective of this community service activity is expected that they can understand the importance of gender equality, have an awareness to respect and fight for equal rights for all individuals, form a character that is critical of gender injustice.The results show that this community service activity can improve the understanding of students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang, using 10 (ten) indicators of Pre-Test and Post-Test, which experienced a positive and significant increase in results to measure student understanding before and after the delivery of material. From previously students did not understand or only had a simple understanding to having a deep understanding. This increase reflects the success of the socialization program in providing new insights and strengthening students' understanding of the importance of understanding gender equality issues for the younger generation.
